LaminarEdge Aerospace LLC (LEAero) is a Colorado Springs-based aerospace and defense contractor specializing in R&D and engineering services spanning subsonic to hypersonic test and evaluation. We work closely with government and industry partners to advance aerospace test technologies, including optical/fiber sensing, wind tunnel instrumentation, and high-speed aerodynamics.
LEAero is seeking a Research Engineer/Scientist to support ongoing and future R&D efforts in aerospace test and evaluation. This role will contribute to hands-on research, experimentation, and technical development across a range of programs, from early-stage SBIR/STTR research to applied engineering deliverables for government and commercial customers.
● Conduct applied research and engineering analysis in support of aerospace test and evaluation programs
● Design, develop, and support experiments, instrumentation, or test hardware/software as needed
● Contribute to technical proposals, reports, and documentation
● Collaborate with internal staff and external teaming partners (government labs, universities, industry)
● Support data collection, analysis, and interpretation for test campaigns
● Communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Required:
● MS or PhD in a relevant engineering or physical science field (e.g., Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Optical, Physics), OR a Bachelor's degree with relevant hands-on research/engineering experience
● Must be a U.S. citizen
● Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance (active Secret clearance a plus)
● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
● Willingness to work hands-on in a lab/test environment as well as at a desk
Preferred:
● Experience with aerodynamics, hypersonics, or optical/fiber sensing
● Familiarity with government contracting environments (SBIR/STTR, DoD programs)
● Programming/data analysis skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
● Experience with wind tunnel testing or similar experimental facilities
● Modeling & Simulation experience, including CFD, FEA, parametric CAD, meshing software, or other physics-based tools
● Mechanical design experience, including stress/strain analysis and optical system design
● Experience with data acquisition systems, filtering, and data analysis
● This position is based on-site in Colorado Springs, CO.
